The Water Services Department is pleased to announce significant progress on the SKN TransWater Project, a flagship initiative developed in collaboration with the Green Climate Fund (GCF). This transformative project aims to transition St. Kitts and Nevis toward a low-carbon, climate-resilient water supply sector, aligning with the Federation’s Water Adaptation Plan, the Sustainable Island State Agenda, and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The SKN TransWater Project is in the Project Preparation Facility (PPF) Stage, following approval by the GCF. This stage involves conducting key preparatory studies, including feasibility studies, environmental and social assessments, and the development of project-level indicators. These elements are essential for designing a technically and financially sound proposal ahead of the final approval stage, expected in 2026.
As part of our commitment to transparency, inclusivity, and community engagement, the Water Services Department invites the public to a Stakeholder Consultation Meeting to learn more about the project and provide input to help shape its design.

Meeting Objectives
This stakeholder meeting forms part of the project’s due diligence process and satisfies the GCF’s policies on stakeholder engagement and environmental and social safeguards. It aims to provide a structured forum for inclusive, early, and meaningful community participation in the project’s planning process.
During the meeting, we will:
- Introduce the SKN TransWater Project, highlighting its climate resilience goals and alignment with national and international priorities.
- Sensitize stakeholders to the project scope and anticipated benefits, including infrastructure proposals such as storage tanks, wells, pipelines, and desalination systems.
- Present preliminary design concepts and gather public feedback to refine the project in a way that reflects local needs and site-specific considerations.
- Identify key environmental, social, and gender-related issues to inform safeguard instruments, such as the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA), the Gender Action Plan (GAP), and the Public Awareness Strategy.
- Officially launch the project’s public survey, outlining its purpose, key topics, and how residents can participate and contribute their views.
The Water Services Department encourages all stakeholders—residents, community leaders, NGOs, businesses, and government partners—to attend and actively participate in shaping this important national initiative.
