WSD: Heavy Rain Leads to Blockages at All Surface Water Intakes

Date:

Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – The Water Services Department (WSD) wishes to advise the general public that recent heavy rain has blocked all surface water intakes, accounting for about 30% of its supplies.

The intakes are located deep within the forest, so access to and clearing these sources poses a high risk to WSD employees while the rains continue to fall and the Ghauts flow. Accordingly, the WSD will restrict actions to access and clear the sources while conditions remain unfavourable.

In the meantime, the WSD is redistributing water from areas supplied by wells. It is therefore even more critical during this time of reduced inflow that all consumers cut back on their water usage.

The WSD regrets any inconvenience caused and asks for your patience as it endeavours to return to normal operations as soon as possible.

The WSD reminds customers to report urgent water service issues via its hotline at 662-4307.
