Minister Konris Maynard Hails Quarry Modernization Efforts as Critical Equipment is Commissioned

Date:

Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities, and Domestic Transport officially commissioned a Powerscreen secondary crushing plant, a screening plant, and a Rokbak truck in a brief ceremony at the quarry Tuesday morning.

“This project marks a significant milestone in the evolution of our construction sector.”

-Hon. Konris Maynard – Minister of Public Infrastructure, Energy, Utilities, And Domestic Transport

In his remarks, Minister Maynard chronicled the events that informed the decision to upgrade the quarry, citing outdated and inefficient equipment and difficulties in maintaining that equipment as factors that rendered the quarry unable to meet the demands of modern construction. As a result of the investment in new equipment, however, the quality and quantity of aggregates from the quarry are expected to improve.

In August 2024, the quarry received its first primary crusher upgrade since 1988, with the new equipment outperforming the combined crushing rate of the other crushers. Eight months later, the critical equipment commissioned in the first quarter of 2025 is poised to enhance quarry operations further. The imminent arrival of a new excavator also promises to increase productivity even more.

“With these new additions, the quarry’s output is set to increase by over 300%.”
