Energy Unit’s Mascot Design Winner Jaquori Isaac is ‘People’s Choice’ in OECS Watt’s Art Competiton

Date:

Basseterre, St. Kitts (MoPIEUDT NEWS) – To celebrate CARICOM Energy Month 2024, the OECS Commission organized an art competition themed “Watt’s Art: Sustainable Energy Meets Creativity” for individuals aged 10-18. The competition fostered innovation and enabled youth to express their ideas through art.

Participants were required to submit their artwork between November 4 and December 2, 2024, with a brief explanation as to how the piece relates to sustainable energy. Themes for consideration included the power of renewable sources, energy conservation in everyday life, innovative solutions for sustainable future with energy and the impact of energy on our lives and the environment.

In addition to the top three winners selected by the judges, the public selected one of the twenty-one contestants through online voting. Nevis national, 18-year-old Jaquori Isaac, winner of Energy Unit’s Mascot Design Competition, secured the People’s Choice Award, garnering 100 of the 524 votes casted.

Mr. Isaac discussed the inspiration behind his piece entitled “Power Your Life“.

“My piece compares the effects of using renewable energy sources versus fossil fuels. The use of fossil fuels would ultimately destroy the environment. I believe that the investment that Nevis is currently making in geothermal energy is a very good step in the right direction and I think we should continue on that path.”

When asked about advice he would give to other young artists concerning using art to raise awareness about environmental issues, he simply replied, “Just do it!”
